Alternative Energy – 250 jobs coming to St. Clair County, Michigan. ECG announces decision to locate an alternative energy manufacturing facility in St. Clair, Michigan. The City of St. Clair hopes to capitalize on its access to rail, port and highway to position itself in the alternative energy industry. ECG received a Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) employment tax credit valued at up to $2M along with the City of St. Clair creating a Renewable Energy Renaissance Zone (RERZ) for their facility. Today, One Block off the Grid (1BOG), the nation's top consumer advocacy group for residential renewable energy, and New Orleans-based South Coast Solar, Louisiana's largest solar energy company, announced that the Metro New Orleans area will be the program's first official city outside of California for its groundbreaking new solar community purchasing program. The program, which will enable Louisiana homeowners to organize as a community and buy solar in bulk at a significantly cheaper rate, was started in June of 2008 in San Francisco, CA, and has since been hailed as a major success. Ardent Energy Group of Elk Grove California USA and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is building a complete farm to fuel supply chain using non-edible biological feedstock. Winter Haven, Florida is poised to have its first certified "green" home. Residents Carl & Sheryll Strang enlisted their architect son, Max, of Max Strang Architecture to design an environmentally-friendly lakefront residence. Construction commenced in February and the home should be complete by the end of the year. This is the first home in Winter Haven to be registered with the US Green Building Council for a LEED certification.
